One of the most common types of urinary stones in cats and dogs are struvite stones.
Struvite crystals are relatively common, however, the issue comes when these crystals clump together, forming a stone in the urinary tract and often causing irritation or even cause a urinary obstruction.
Symptoms include:
- Inflammation and irritation
- Frequent urination
- Difficulty urinating
- Bloody/discoloured urine (pink/red/brown urine)
- Pungent urine
- Urinating outside litterbox/having accidents indoors
- Lethargy
- Minimal appetite
- Vomiting
- Licking their genital area more than usual
Not all of these symptoms may be present, in fact, sometimes your pet won't show any symptoms. Struvite stones can sometimes only be discovered when doing tests for a different condition.
