Bone spurs are bony projections that develop along bone edges.  They often form in the joints where the bones meet, including along the spinal bones (vertebrae).  The main cause of bone spurs is joint damage associated with osteoarthritis or bone degeneration.  Most bone spurs cause no symptoms and can go undetected for years and are usually only detected during an x-ray.
