Colic usually occurs when babies are a few days or a few weeks old. It is when a baby is crying or fussing frequently who appears to be otherwise healthy and well-fed. There are often long periods where they're unsettled or grizzling, but they may also cry very loudly, these symptoms occur or worsen in the evening. Babies with colic might:
- Draw their legs up
- Squirm
- Strain
- Turn red or purple
- Clench their fists
- Arch their backs

Colic is very common and affects about one in five babies. It usually begins when the baby is in its first few weeks of life and peaks around 6 to 8 weeks. It often stops when the baby is 4 to 6 months old.

Some causes of colic include:
- Indigestion
- Trapped wind
- Gut sensitivity (to proteins or sugars found in breast milk and milk formulas)
